Hueneme (pronounced "why-nee-mee") is derived from a Chumash Indian word meaning "half-way" or "resting place." It is believed that Indians stopped at Point Hueneme as they transited between today's Point Mugu and the mouth of the Santa Clara River.
See

Operation coincided with the Pt. Hueneme Beach Festival. From their webiste
www.huenemebeachfest.org/ "We invite you and your family to join us for laughs, fun in the sun, great food and music that will have you out of your seat and dancing till your feet hurt. The Festival will have an expanded children's area with rides, games and attractions for kids of all ages. The festivities will be held at Hueneme Beach Park, located at 550 E.
